Our debut outreach was on May 28, 2017 where we organised a Children’s Day Celebration party for over 500 marginalised children at the New Kuchingoro IDP Camp, Abuja.
New Kuchingoro is a community in Lugbe Division, a suburb of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, near National Stadium, by Games Village in Abuja. The New Kuchingoro IDP camp is currently home to about 1,550 inhabitants who were displaced in 2014 from their ancestral homes in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, and Bauchi states, by insurgency and Fulani Herdsmen. The majority of inhabitants are women and children who have no way to support themselves and their families.
The highlight of the event for me was the face painting.
During the face painting, the painter asked the kids “What would you like to become when you grow up?”. Their responses were amazing. A young girl responded that she'd like to be a Soldier so she can save people when there’s war.
Another one said he'd like to be a President. I could see hope in their eyes, despite all they’ve been through.
We had various competitions, lots of food, drinks, and gifts for the children.
I believe one day; their hopes will be fully restored.
